Bridging Insight, Innovation, and Everyday Life
Founded in 2005 as "Visudo Software Consulting", VSC began as a digital consultancy rooted in harnessing the power of open-source technologies for nonprofits, governments, and the creative industries. Despite a consistent technical foundation and software orientation, there has always been a focus on the generative and creative aspects of work.
In pursuit of that focus, VSC has evolved over time into a broader research and strategy company with deep expertise in the cultural, legal, and technological dimensions of digital transformation. Across all our work, we believe in the value of good ideas — and the tools, systems and protections that help those ideas thrive.
Our current activities fall into two core areas:
- Research, Advisory and Risk Analysis, offering insight, foresight, and strategy for organisations facing digital or informational challenges
- Technology R&D, prototyping new tools and software systems — particularly around metadata, automation, and how data flows through everyday life
We’re inspired by the power and accessibility of open-source technologies and by the cultural promise of the internet, even as we remain clear-eyed about its risks. Over the last 20 years, our team has changed, always amicably, but our remaining co-founder, Marcus Gilroy-Ware, is a digital native whose work has explored the promise and perils of online culture for the last 30 years, and whose training in research, law, software engineering and the arts continues to guide our multidisciplinary approach.
Looking ahead, VSC is increasingly focused on building tools that help people — from citizens to organisations — interact more intelligently and ethically with the data and digital systems that now underpin so much of life. Whether through strategic advice or hands-on development, we aim to empower ideas that will change the world.
